Nevada System of Higher Education Board of Regents leaders, chancellor move on for replacement

A new chancellor, chairman and vice chair were announced during the latest Nevada System of Higher Education Board of Regents meeting.

The board appointed Executive Vice Chancellor Dan Klaich to the chancellor position, currently held by Jim Rogers.

Klaich will serve as the tenth chancellor of the Nevada System of Higher Education and will oversee an organization that has more than 108,000 students, 14,200 faculty and staff and an annual budget of $1.59 billion.

“I appreciate the appointment,” Klaich said. “I’ll work…tirelessly.”
Rogers, who plans to pursue at least part-time teaching at Johns Hopkins University’s business school, called his time as chancellor the greatest single experience of his life.

“He’s been our great and unfailing and tireless advocate,” exiting Board of Regents Chair Michael Wixom said of Rogers.

Wixom also spoke on the reason Klaich was appointed without a national search held for potential candidates for the position.

“Dan brings a wealth of administrative, legislative and leadership experience to the system,” Wixom said. “He is the right leader at the right time to guide the NSHE through budget challenges and the next chapter in moving Nevada’s education system forward.”

Regent James Leavitt was elected as chairman of the board during the meeting, after he was described as having the time and dedication to make the board successful.

Jason Geddes, a member of the Student and Academic Affairs Committee, the Research and Economic Development Committee and the ad hoc Technology Committee, was appointed to the vice chair position.

All newly appointed stations will become official after July 1.
