IN BRIEF: Study finds travel, gender linked Default Thumbnail

November 12, 2009 by The Rebel Yell

A recent study found that due to gender-based differences, women are approximately twice as likely than men to study abroad.

The data was presented at a conference of the Association for the Study of Higher Education last week.

Based on 2,800 students at 19 universities, researchers surveyed entering freshmen in 2006 and surveyed them again in 2007.

The analysis was done by researchers at the Iowa Center for Research on Undergraduate Education.

The study found that the more men interacted with their peers, the less likely they were to study abroad, while peer interaction did not change women’s outlook on studying abroad.
