IN BRIEF: Report: fewer minority grads
November 16, 2009 by The Rebel Yell
A report by the Journal of Blacks in Higher Education reports that while nearly 4.6 million blacks hold four-year college degrees, the racial minority still lags behind non-Hispanic whites in number of degrees per capita.
The journal reports that 19.6 percent of blacks over the age of 25 have college degrees, compared to the 32.6 percent of non-Hispanic whites who hold degrees.
The gap has grown smaller, which, the journal concludes, is a sign of progress.
Approximately 10,000 American blacks had college educations in the 1920s.
