College Republicans host meeting with Sue Lowden

Gearing up for the June 8 primary, Republican Senate candidate Sue Lowden made an appearance as guest speaker at UNLV yesterday to discuss her platform with at a College Republicans meeting. The Rebel Yell took the opportunity to ask questions about her plans for this year’s race.

The Rebel Yell: What made you decide to run for the Senate?

Sue Lowden: I am angry at what’s going on in Washington and I’m frustrated at the policies I see happening [there]. I am concerned for my children and my grandchildren about their future, the debt, the spending [and] the bailouts… I think Harry Reid has lost touch with the folks who have put him into office. I think that he doesn’t represent us anymore… I think that I stand a really good chance of winning in this primary and it’s going to be a tough battle but I think I can beat Harry Reid.

RY: What was the last straw?

SL: You take the stimulus. How did that resolve anything? We were promised that unemployment wouldn’t go above 8 percent… I don’t see anything in the immediate future that would suspend those numbers… and I think it’s the wrong policies that are being enacted in Washington. It’s not just one thing.

RY: Is there anything you feel Harry Reid has done well?

SL: No. Right now Nevada’s economy is just so bad. Our unemployment rate is the highest its ever been. Our foreclosure rate is the highest in the country. I think that we need to start from scratch, a new beginning. I think we need new policies.

RY: Besides Danny Tarkanian, who do you see as your greatest opposition going into primary season?

SL: I take everybody seriously and I don’t think it’s a negative that there are so many people in the campaign. I think it’s a great opportunity to build excitement within the Republican Party, something we haven’t had in a long time… I don’t see one person more than another person being a problem for me.

RY: What would you say to the more moderate and to the left side to show that you’re the right person to vote for?

SL: I’m reaching out to everybody. I’m reaching out to independents, to Libertarians, to the Green Party… and I’m just talking common sense… I don’t think a lot of these issues are partisan issues. Healthcare is not a partisan issue, it’s a life and death issue. Why has it been made a partisan issue? Don’t we all want people to have healthcare that’s affordable? Why aren’t we working on that? Jobs are not partisan issue, it’s a critical issue that we have to create jobs. That has nothing to do with partisanship. I’m talking to everybody who wants to listen and I don’t care what your party is. We’re Nevadans and we’ve got to pull ourselves out of this.

RY: Which is the major issue that you want to tackle first and what are you going to do to attain that goal?

SL: I would tackle jobs. I would be talking about how do we get out of this economic slump and get on our way to recovery. I would start cutting taxes. It’s outlined in my platform how I would tackle it. I think that would stimulate the economy not with the redistribution of wealth… it’s about putting money back in your pocket and creating businesses, adding to your business, creating new business entrepreneurs. It’s a whole different philosophy that I would do as opposed to what’s being done right now. I believe in the private sector.

Sue Lowden is such a lightweight. She has no chance against Reid, and if she were to win she would have no power in the Senate compared to what Reid has.

If you really want to beat Reid we need to support a real conservative. Tarkanian or Angle, not Lowden.

Unfortunately, this doesn’t really reveal all that much about what she is specifically going to do (kind of like all the other information she has released) if she is elected. Lowden better show something more concrete if she expects to get any support.

    Craig,

What exactly has Harry done with his power to help us? He didn’t get us the foreclosure funding. He didn’t get us the train funding. He didn’t get us the school funding and he was the person handing all of this federal money out. So for all the power he has, he seems only interested in giving stuff to people in Nebraska or Louisiana or Connecticut, etc. I personally think a junior senator could help out the state of Nevada at least as much as Reid does now. So why keep him in office for another six years?

Also according to the polls for the last six or so months, basically any Republican could defeat him handily. Because most of those running against him aren’t well known and yet they still out poll him by high single digits to low double digits.

Yea Craig, like Dave has said..what exactly did his power do for us other than Nevada being 50th in receiving the bail out money he was such a big proponent of?

Dan, how is Sue Lowden not a real conservative? She actually help start the tea party movement in NV..regardless of what Glenn Beck says..
