Bringing together independent filmmakers, screenwriters, actors and fans, the three-day fest included everything from student productions to films that have premiered at Sundance, Cannes and the Grammys.

The festival, held at The Hilton, honored a diverse category of cinema including animations, documentaries, foreign films, shorts, features, music videos, commercials and TV pilots produced by artists from all around the world.

Work from Billy Bob Thorton, American Film Institute, UNLV and the College of Southern Nevada showed at this year’s fest.

Strutting down the red carpet in pride, UNLV Spring Flicks winners showed their award-winning films to a theater full of fellow students and international filmmakers.

The third place winner at Spring Flicks, “Walnuts,” by Ryan LeBouf, is a cleverly written, quirky, lovable, Wes Anderson-esque story. Peculiar cloning mishaps and murders ensue in the flim, starring film professor Kynan Dias.

“Paper Stars” by Andrea Walter is a boy-meets-girl tale that has some impressive comic book effects courtesy of editor Brian Jaggers, creator of UNLV’s music show “Vegas In Tune.”

“Giraffe” by Dan Jaidar is the kinkiest, most intriguing and provocative film. It tells the story of a girl in a hotel room getting drugged, gagged and abused. The film has a surprise twist at the end that filled the audience with discomfort.

Written by film professor David Schmoeller, “Two Frenchmen Lost in Las Vegas” is a clever story starring actor and film professor Pascal Marcotte. With the help of an Elvis impersonator, the Frenchman finds love and happiness in Las Vegas.

Other UNLV films like “Silver Sweet Sound,” “Delirium,” “Marko” and “Luke Williams: Body Linguist” showed during the fest. Spring Flicks second and first place winners “Sad Story” and “Rat Basturd” were also shown.
