Beauty tips for every body

September 24, 2009 by · 3 Comments

If you’ve got it, you don’t want to flaunt it. Problem areas, that is.

Every girl has at least one, or five, areas of her body she wishes were more toned, curvier, smoother, tanner — the list goes on. If you can’t visit Dr. 90210, these are simple beauty tips that can aid your biggest, or smallest, insecurities.

UPPER BODY

Problem: big arms
If you are insecure about your arms, an instant fix is to invest in boleros. A bolero is a small cropped jacket or cardigan which specifically covers the arms and shoulders. Boleros are available in multiple fabrics and styles, ranging from formal cover-ups to everyday casual wear. If you are looking for a solution that will tone your arms over time, invest in five-pound dumbbells and do lifts at least three times a week. Try toning while watching an episode or two of your favorite television show.

Problem: straight hips
If you want to give the illusion of a curvier silhouette, try high-waist skirts with tiers. Look for a skirt that comes up high, fits tighter around the waist and poufs out at the hip. Instant curvature! These skirts are all over Forever 21 racks and usually go for $20.

Problem: muffin top
The muffin top has one main cause: wearing bottoms that are too small. Chances are, if you are reading this portion, you want to get rid of muffin tops that your existing clothing causes. Your solution lies in flesh-colored cycling shorts or fitted under-skirts called Spanx, available at Nordstom.

LOWER BODY

Problem: small butt
If you weren’t blessed with a gravity -defying derriere like Kim Kardashian, try butt enhancement shorts. Butt pads are no more out of the ordinary than push-up bras, but are simply not as common. Butt enhancement boxers for men are also a growing trend, so no “false advertisement” speech, guys! Avoid adhesive butt pads though (that’s just weird). Web sites like Amazon and eBay always sell this hot commodity for a little booty – usually $24 or less, that is.

Problem: big legs
If you are insecure about your legs, there are three ways you can make them appear smaller. If you love wearing pants, choose boot-cut or straight leg styles in a dark shade or mono-tone wash. Dark opaque tights are a great option under dresses and skirts. Lastly, shop for skirts and dresses with an a-line cut.

Problem: thin legs
Women who dislike their thin legs are in luck this fall. Printed pants have made their way from the runway to retailers. Try bold animal prints, day-glo skinnies or hot pink Betsey Johson tights; they all give the appearance of fuller legs.

SKIN & HAIR

Problem: dull hair
Dull hair can be caused by overexposure to the sun, heat damage from flat irons and curlers or an inadequate diet. Apply Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Leave-In Conditioning Cream to damp hair to keep your locks moisturized. Finish off with Garnier Fructis Style Brilliantine Shine Glossing Spray.

Problem: flaky skin
Flaky facial skin is often the result of sun burns, allergies or a side effect of acne treatments. Aveeno Active Naturals Skin Brightening Daily Scrub is oil-free, soap free and hypoallergenic. It is a scrub that is safe to use everyday, so flaky skin can be sloughed off as needed.

Problem: dark skin discoloration
Common areas that tend to have a darker pigment include underarms, elbows and knees. A natural skin lightening soap is Likas Papaya Soap. This orange bar can be found at most Filipino grocery stores.

Problem: thin eyelashes or eyebrows
Dozens of mascaras promise to lengthen the appearance of lashes. The best way to get thick lashes is to grow more and lengthen what you have. Lipocils Talika Eyelash Gel does just that. Beware that you cannot wear contact lenses while using this product. There is also Lipocils Talika Eyebrow Conditioning Gel for Megan Fox-worthy brows. Both can be found at fine retailers like Sephora and Neiman Marcus.

Problem: pale or scarred legs
If you were anything like the clumsy, hyper kid I was, you probably have scars on your legs from playground days. You may just want to add some color to your gams without visiting a tanning salon. Sally Hansen airbrush leg spray is a great alternative. It is water resistant, comes in five shades, is less than $13 and can be found at any drug store.

BREASTS

Problem: sagging
The common myth about sagging is that it only happens to older women. Not true. Sagging can occur at any size and age. For a dramatic lift, try the Very Sexy demi push up bra by Victoria’s Secret.

Problem: spilling out
Chances are, you are wearing the wrong style. If you hate spilling out of your bra, ditch the demi and get a full coverage bra. Full coverage bras are cut higher and provide added support. If you think all full coverage bras look too old-fashioned or painfully utilitarian, Nordstrom carries a large selection that range from leopard prints to lacey hints.

Problem: back fat
Back fat doesn’t mean your back is fat. It just means you are wearing the wrong band size. The band size is the circumference of your back and chest. Both Nordstrom and Victoria’s Secret offer complimentary bra fittings. If you are still worried about back fat, Victoria’s Secret sells the seamless Secret Embrace bra which eliminates lines completely.

Problem: straps that dig in to shoulders
Straps that dig in to shoulders are painful and can easily be avoided. The Bali Passion Comfort bra sold at JC Penny’s has straps that cushion the shoulders. Another option for is the Perfect One bra at Victoria’s Secret, which carries sizes 32B-38DD.

Problem: where are they?
On of the most common request sales associates receive is for a bra that provides optimal enhancement. There are three bras in particular that I consider to be “boob job bras.” The first bra is the Smooth Sensation demi bra by Frederick’s of Hollywood which adds one cup size. The second is the Very Sexy Convertible Push-up by Victoria’s Secret. This bra can be converted into a halter-style, low-back, and racer-back. The third is the Interview Bra by Victoria’s Secret, which absolutely takes the cake for cleavage enhancement.
